2014 Slingball Champ Chris Koons

Dear all Slingball Participants, Supporters, Volunteers, Donators, and then some… Thank you!!! The Neu Brothers, Randy & Carter, want to share a sincere THANK YOU for everyone who participated and/or supported the 8th Annual MJN “Help Fight MS” Slingball Tourney. All in we raised just over $15,222 to help the fight against MS!!! This is an all-time new record in $$$’s raised! Candyce from the MSSP added “Your support and funds help folks with MS with products and services not covered by insurance. For example, the hot weather really makes it difficult for folks with MS and we will be able to purchase 60+ air conditioners to help those who otherwise couldn’t afford them. Thank you!”
Our mother, Marilyn J. Neu, would be proud of all of you as she believed in “paying it forward” and helping others and your dedication & participation helped make it all happen! That said, we wanted to recap the 8th Annual MJN “Help Fight MS” Slingball Tourney:

The Adults! After a slight rainstorm scare on Saturday, the weather turned out just right and we had some epic battles within 4 new divisions. Each of these impressive divisions had many ultra competitive battles to jettison out the elite “Sweet 16”. They are listed as follows:
The Negators: Bill Swanick, Grove Hunt, Will Symms, and Pat Cole
The Mary Lous: Paul Reis, Randy Neu, Carter Neu, and Kyle Cagley
The 3 Ring Circuses: Pete Arvidson, Matt Betts, Erik Wald and Eric Reise
The Snapbacks: Chris Koons, Maurice Frye, Brian Cook and Jeff Wenckus
In the end, four Master Specimens made their way to the main Slingball courts to battle it out for a “New” Slingball champion! These four masters were: Erik Wald, Paul Reis, Grove Hunt and Chris Koons.
After multiple battles between these “Titans of Sling” including a back to back match between Grove and Paul, one wizard of the sand stood alone amongst his peers…
Chris “Calm, Cool, & Collective” Koons (try saying that 3 times in a row). Chris was so happy to become the new Slingball champion that he actually kept his Slingball Cup throughout the night and continued to drink his beverage of choice from the sought after cup! Congrats, Chris! You get to gloat for the full year!

The Kids! Additionally impressive was the masterful duels in the Kid’s Division where four young warriors managed to make their way to the Sunday court. These young warriors were: Kennan Frye, Joey Angelo, Jason Hickenlooper and Xavier Delgadillo.

1st place: Kennan Frye, 2nd: Joey Angelo, 3rd: Jason Hickenlooper and 4th: Xavier Delgadillo.

Several intense Slingball battles ensued until there was only one standing. That new champion was actually a new comer to Slingball, Keenan “Bulls Eye” Frye. While Keenan’s dad, Mo Frye also made it to the Sweet 16 as a new comer, it was Keenan’s bulls eye dart throwing that annihalated his opponents with a precision only seen by surgeons!
Congrats to Keenan and all of the kid participants (over 60 this year… WOW!)! We look forward to seeing you defend your title next year!
