Slingball 2023 Recap

First off, a sincere thank you to all of our participants, volunteers, donations of funds, silent auction, Tillamook County, Apollo Mechanical, Woodruff Sawyer, Dagler Consulting and Cook Solutions Group.   Our mom, Marilyn J. Neu “MJN” would be proud and we couldn’t do it without you. Your generosity and participation is greatly appreciated!

Secondly, SAVE THE DATE: June 28-30 2024 for SLING24.

Now for the recap! Congratulations to Colby King, our new Sling Champ representing the Bonney Slope Team! Colby comes from Sunset High and U of O and used a low to the sand style of throwing style to defeat last year’s champion, Ronan Eggleston in a back to back duel. The coveted Sling Cup returns to the youth movement at least for this year. 3rd place goes to Idaho Vandal Alum Steve Gotsch and 4th place goes to former Champ Chris Koons.

The Team Sling bragging rights went to Team MJN Neu for having the most participants in the Sweet 16. Congrats to all our Sweet 16 Players who put on a spectacular performance.

For the Mini Marilyn Kids tourney it was Mason Puga from Team OC out of Idaho defeating Team Bonny Slopes Logan Wald. A neck and neck battle and Logan took it gracefully and earned the Pierce Lutz sportsmanship award.

Slingball 2022 “MJN Help Fight MS” was another smashing success!  Thank you to all who supported the cause.

Congratulations to new SLING Champion Ronan Eggleston and Mini Marilyn Champion Emerson “Goose” Meyer.

To the entire Team Sling… a sincere thank you!.  The winner of the Adult Slingball Tourney division was long-time player Ronan Eggleston out of Vancouver, WA. He defeated last year’s champion Jace Chadez (from Idaho) in the finals.  3rd place went to OSU grad Mitch Scanlan and 4th to Kevin Grant from Portland.  Plus check out this awesome article by legendary sportswriter Kerry Eggers.

In the kids mini Marilyn division the winner went to female champion Emerson “Goose” Meyer defeating Henry Gotsch followed by Kash Linder and Logan Wald respectively.  The Pearce Lutz kids sportsmanship award went to Maylee Astorquia.  Lutz passed away in a motorcycle accident, but his award lives on as he always demonstrated sportsmanship and kindness.

Special thanks go to Tillamook County and Oregon State Parks as well as the many businesses of Pacific City who donated.   And of course the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland and MS Society of OR.   Our mom Marilyn J. Neu was all about having fun, being good to others, and paying it forward.   The weather turned out perfect and instead of rain gear, it was sunblock! With everyone’s help, we were able to raise $14,000 dollars to put towards the fight against MS!
